As it turns out the President was obsessed with the mysteries and possible hidden treasure on Oak Island. “Digging Deeper” even spent time during an episode visiting President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s library. The show has taken teams to France and Scotland to dig deeper into theories of the island’s mysteries and original explorers. Possible the best part of “The Curse of Oak Island: Digging Deeper” is the investigations into the possible theories. The team believes there may be evidence of a shipwreck sunk deep into the island’s swamp. A 20 foot void in the money pit was found as well as a mysterious hatch and an empty vault. A skeleton key and maps of Fred Nolan’s archives were found. Many discoveries by the Lagina team have been looked at in “Digging Deeper”. What have we learned from “Digging Deeper”? The great thing about “The Curse of Oak Island: Digging Deeper” is that the enhancement show delves into these theories and mysterious findings much further than the original show is able to do. Theories range from visits by the Vikings and ancient mariners to the island, a secret project of Sir Francis Bacon, secret codes hidden in William Shakespeare’s writings, hidden treasures of the Knights Templar, to treasures of the Aztec Empire. Theories have swirled around the discoveries prior to the Lagina brothers’ investigation. True, there have been many artifacts found on the island that seem oddly placed and out of date. Smith’s Cove has the mysterious carved boulders that have been dubbed “Nolan’s Cross”, but this was found way before the Lagina brothers came to the island. We know that mysterious man made tunnels were created to keep the pit flooding and prevent anyone from digging deep enough to find much. We get to see how the team explores the famed yet dangerous and perplexing Money Pit.

While on the original series of “The Curse of Oak Island”, we see much of the men and their teams efforts to find out the secrets of the island, the show can sometimes be slow and not very revealing. The men were approached to make a reality show about their adventures and findings. They partnered with Dan and Dave Blankenship, a father and son who reside on the island, to help with their explorations. Still intrigued with the island’s mystery, Rick and Marty Lagina purchased a large part of the island with the intent to use modern equipment and technology to explore the mysteries. Unfortunately dangerous excavating on the island has led to some deaths over the past century and a half. Since that time, many have tried to find what they believe could be millions of dollars hidden in the booby trapped “Money Pit” finding strange clues and historic artifacts along the way. By 1850, amateur explorers began searching the island for apparent hidden treasure.

In 1965, Rick and Marty Lagina of Michigan became intrigued with a Reader’s Digest article they read about the island and what might be there. The heavily wooded 140 acre island has been shrouded in mystery for more than 200 years. Oak Island lies about 600 feet off the southern shore of Nova Scotia, Canada.
